Edo State NSCDC attack kills eight officers and kidnaps a Chinese expatriate at BUA Cement Factory; joint security operations launched to track suspects

Edo State NSCDC attack left eight officers dead on Friday when gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers, ambushed personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) at the BUA Cement Factory in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area.

A senior command officer in Edo State confirmed on Saturday that one Chinese expatriate was abducted while four others were rescued.

Four additional officers sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital. The officer noted that an official statement would soon be issued from the NSCDC headquarters in Abuja.

The attack occurred around 10 p.m. as the NSCDC team was escorting five Chinese workers after a routine patrol at the company entrance. Commandant Agun Gbenga visited both the crime scene and the hospital where the injured officers are receiving care.

Authorities have launched joint security operations with sister agencies, combing nearby forests in pursuit of the assailants.

The attack follows another security incident on Friday, when sixteen passengers abducted along the Benin-Auchi Road were rescued.

Edo State Police spokesperson Moses Yamu confirmed the victims, who were traveling to Abuja, were forced into the forest before being rescued in a combined operation with local vigilantes and hunters.
