Ekiti APC primary election faces criticism as PDP candidate Oluwole Oluyede describes the exercise as the worst in the state’s history

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Oluwole Oluyede, has described the recent All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in the state as the worst in Nigeria’s democratic history, claiming the exercise has left the ruling party deeply divided.

Oluyede made the remarks during an interview on Arise Television monitored on Saturday, where he criticised both the APC primary process and the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

According to the PDP candidate, the Ekiti APC primary election exposed deep cracks within the ruling party and weakened its standing ahead of the governorship contest.

“The APC conducted a bad primaries and the party is torn apart. They thought PDP is dead in the state and we have shown that we are existing and a cohesive force,” Oluyede said.

He argued that the PDP remains a viable political force in the state and expressed confidence in the party’s chances in the forthcoming election.

Oluyede also claimed that PDP administrations have historically delivered better governance in Ekiti State than governments led by the APC.

“Putting in mind that the only government that has been able to perform in any shape or form in Ekiti historically has been the PDP, and if we look at the performances of previous government, this current one is definitely the worst performing government,” he said.

The PDP flagbearer further alleged that residents of the state had become dissatisfied with the current administration, describing it as ineffective and inactive.

“People are tired of an inept and inactive government that hasn’t really done anything for its people, and I’m sure that even if there is no alternative, Governor Oyebanji will still have lost election to himself,” he added.

The comments come as political activities intensify in Ekiti State ahead of the next governorship election, with opposition parties seeking to challenge the APC’s hold on power.

The APC has yet to officially respond to Oluyede’s latest criticisms.
