Lagos Police inaugurate Eko Strike Force station to enhance security, support Rapid Response Squad, and improve response to distress calls

The Lagos State Police Command has inaugurated a new divisional station for the Eko Strike Force in Shomolu, aiming to bolster security operations and support the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) across the state.

State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, who officiated the inauguration on Monday, said the Eko Strike Force was created to strengthen Lagos’s security architecture and improve response times to criminal incidents.

“The facility is designed to enhance the operational capacity of the rapid response team and ensure faster intervention during emergencies,” Jimoh said.

He clarified that the divisional station is not intended to rival the RRS but to complement its operations.

The modern facility was donated by the Chairman of Shomolu Local Government Area, Abdulateef Ashimi, whose gesture, Jimoh noted, demonstrates strong community support for security agencies.

The commissioner also thanked former Inspector-General of Police Olukayode Egbetokun and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for their guidance and provision of resources to improve policing.

“The fear of crime is often worse than the crime itself. Our goal is to remove that fear and ensure that residents can go about their daily activities safely,” Jimoh added.

He urged residents to collaborate with the police by providing timely and useful information to prevent crime.

In his welcome address, Ashimi emphasised the importance of community involvement in security, highlighting the role of residents and police in safeguarding youths and maintaining peace.

He called for proactive collaboration between authorities and the community to address security challenges effectively.

Strategically located, the new divisional station will allow officers to respond promptly to incidents on both the Lagos mainland and Island, ensuring public confidence in safety and supporting economic and social activities across the state.
