Enugu Police recover two stolen vehicles and arrest six suspects in intelligence-led operations, reinforcing the command’s fight against crime

The Enugu State Police Command has recovered two stolen vehicles and arrested six suspects in separate intelligence-led operations targeting vehicle theft across the state.

In the first operation, officers from the New Haven Division recovered a stolen Mitsubishi L300 bus on 8 January at Ogui, Enugu.

Four suspects – Hassan Sheyu (29), Bashiru Yusuf (37), Alago Yusuf (30) and Idris Abisolamu (28) – were arrested, along with Nwanneka Isiugwu, who allegedly purchased the vehicle for ₦1.7 million.

Police Public Relations Officer SP Daniel Ndukwe confirmed that the arrests followed credible intelligence.

“Acting on reliable information, our operatives successfully recovered the stolen Mitsubishi L300 bus and arrested four suspects involved in the crime,” he said.

In a related operation, Udenu Police Division operatives arrested 27-year-old mechanic Friday Onuh at Obollo-Afor on 7 January, recovering a stolen Toyota Camry 2.4.

The suspect admitted that the vehicle, entrusted to him for repairs by its owner in Victoria Island, Lagos, was absconded with.

Commissioner of Police, CP Bitrus Giwa, praised the operations and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

“Criminals should know that Enugu is not a safe haven for crime,” he said.

Giwa also advised vehicle owners to install tracking devices, steering and pedal locks, and to exercise caution when entrusting vehicles to others.

Police investigations are ongoing, with efforts intensified to apprehend other suspects who remain at large.

All arrested individuals are expected to be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
