Federal Government Basic Health Care Provision Fund releases ₦32.9bn to boost primary health care and promote community participation, says Minister Pate

Federal Government Basic Health Care Provision Fund disbursement of ₦32.9bn has been approved and released, marking the third round of allocations in 2025 aimed at revitalising Nigeria’s primary health care system.

The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate, announced the release in a statement titled “The Red Letter” on Wednesday, urging Nigerians to take an active role in ensuring that the funds are used efficiently and transparently.

According to Pate, the funds are already being transferred directly into the commercial bank accounts of primary health care facilities across all wards in the country.

“It is your clinic’s money. It is your community’s chance. It is your country’s promise,” he said, highlighting that the disbursement places control in the hands of local health institutions and their communities.

The minister emphasised that each health facility now has the authority to plan and spend, working in partnership with ward health committees, traditional leaders, and local organisations.

“All of you are meant to sit together, decide together, and spend together on what will make your facility stronger, safer, and more ready to serve,” Pate explained.

He described the Basic Health Care Provision Fund as the heartbeat of Nigeria’s renewed hope in health, reinforcing the Federal Government’s trust in communities to manage public resources responsibly.

However, he warned that silence and apathy can erode accountability, noting that “when communities stand aside, silence becomes a loss.”

Through the Red Letter initiative, the government is calling on citizens to engage directly with health facilities, review plans, demand transparency, and celebrate progress.

“Each naira in this ₦32.9bn is a seed. When you nurture it with vigilance and pride, it grows into medicine, safe births, better infrastructure, and lives saved,” Pate said.

He concluded by stressing that sustainable healthcare depends on community vigilance and shared responsibility.

“Let this Red Letter reach every community, every ward, and every home. The health of Nigeria lies in the hands of Nigerians,” he added.
