FRSC Anambra intensifies enforcement against fake number plates, overloading, and non-use of speed limiters to boost road safety and security across the state

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra Sector Command, has significantly ramped up its enforcement efforts against the use of fake number plates and the non-use of Speed Limiting Devices.

This comprehensive crackdown also includes a renewed focus on vehicle overloading across the state.

Sector Commander C.C. Joyce Alexander revealed these intensified operations during a briefing with journalists in Awka on Friday. She underscored that these measures are crucial for reducing road traffic crashes and bolstering overall security within Anambra.

Alexander particularly highlighted the critical role of regulating number plates. She explained that vehicle registration details are intrinsically linked to personal information, including the owner’s phone number, address, and name.

This data, she stressed, is invaluable for tracking criminals, especially those involved in land transportation-related crimes.

“This effort is especially vital in Anambra, where the governor has implemented measures to combat insecurity,” she stated, linking the FRSC’s actions directly to the state’s broader security initiatives.

The Sector Commander also disclosed that the recent enforcement drive has led to the arraignment of 38 offenders for various traffic violations. Of these, 36 individuals were convicted, while two were discharged.

Ahead of the upcoming Eid Eld-Kabir celebrations, the FRSC Anambra Command affirmed its readiness to respond swiftly to any road traffic emergencies.

The public has been urged to cooperate by promptly reporting crashes and obstructions through the FRSC’s 24-hour toll-free emergency lines.

“The collaboration of the public is invaluable in our quest to reduce road crashes and create safer transport conditions,” Alexander added, emphasising the shared responsibility in ensuring road safety.
