Party insists Alhaji Tijani Galadima remains its governorship candidate for the 2027 election despite concerns over grassroots visibility

The Adamawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has firmly dismissed reports suggesting it is considering replacing Alhaji Tijani Galadima as its governorship candidate for the 2027 election, insisting that the party remains fully committed to his candidature.

Speaking in Yola on Wednesday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Dogo Victor, described the reports as false and misleading, maintaining that there was no discussion within the party regarding a possible substitution of Galadima ahead of the next governorship contest.

“We are hearing all these allegations over plans to change Galadima; there is nothing like that. He is the 2027 governorship candidate of the ruling APC in Adamawa State, take it from me as the spokesman of the party in Adamawa State,” Victor said.

The clarification follows growing speculation within political circles over Galadima’s visibility in the state and concerns among some party members regarding his level of grassroots engagement.

Questions had emerged in recent months about whether the businessman and politician had sufficiently connected with party supporters and voters across Adamawa ahead of what is expected to be a fiercely contested election.

Responding to those concerns, Victor said the party had already put strategies in place to increase Galadima’s public profile and strengthen his engagement with communities throughout the state.

According to him, the APC has been actively introducing Galadima to more residents and stakeholders as part of preparations for the 2027 campaign season.

“If you notice of recent anywhere Governor Ahmadu Fintiri is going, he follows the governor; this is a strategy employed to introduce him to the grassroots people, before the proper election campaign starts,” he stated.

Victor argued that the approach would allow more voters to become familiar with Galadima before formal political campaigns commence.

The party spokesman also rejected suggestions that prominent businessman Abdulrahman Haske could emerge as a replacement candidate, insisting that the APC remains satisfied with its current choice.

According to Victor, there is no internal obstacle threatening Galadima’s position within the party, and efforts are focused on strengthening support ahead of the election.

However, the party’s position has not completely silenced concerns from some quarters.

A member of the APC State Executive Committee, who spoke anonymously, expressed reservations about Galadima’s popularity among the electorate and warned that the party could face challenges if it failed to broaden public support for its candidate.

The official further alleged that Galadima’s emergence as the party’s governorship candidate was imposed on members, a claim that reflects lingering divisions within sections of the party.

While the source did not provide details of any organised opposition to Galadima’s candidature, the comments underscore concerns that internal unity could become a factor as preparations for the 2027 election gather momentum.

Political observers note that candidate acceptability and grassroots mobilisation often play decisive roles in governorship contests in Adamawa, making early engagement with communities a critical aspect of campaign planning.

As a secondary highlight, the APC’s decision to publicly reaffirm support for Galadima appears aimed at dispelling uncertainty and projecting unity at a time when political parties are gradually positioning themselves for future electoral battles.

The governorship election remains more than a year away, but discussions surrounding potential candidates have already begun to shape political calculations across the state.

For now, the Adamawa APC insists there is no vacancy to fill and no intention to revisit its choice of candidate.

Victor maintained that Galadima remains the party’s preferred flagbearer and is expected to lead the APC into the 2027 governorship race.

The reaffirmation comes as political stakeholders continue to assess strategies, alliances and grassroots structures ahead of what is expected to be another closely watched electoral cycle in Adamawa State.

2027: Political Parties Mobilise Thousands of Polling Agents

on

Political parties in Nigeria have intensified the recruitment and training of polling agents ahead of the 2027 general elections, as preparations shift towards securing representation at polling units across the country.

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), are putting structures in place to monitor voting, counting and collation of results.

The development comes as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) introduces an electronic platform for political parties to nominate and submit the details of their polling agents, replacing the manual submission system used in previous elections.

Nigeria has 176,846 polling units, making nationwide representation a major logistical undertaking for parties seeking to monitor the electoral process from the grassroots.

The APC has claimed that it has recruited 4,421,150 polling agents across the country’s polling units.

Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma, disclosed the figure while speaking at a two-day national retreat of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Abuja.

The ruling party said its mobilisation was part of efforts to strengthen its grassroots presence and ensure adequate representation during the elections.

The opposition parties are also developing their own strategies, with some focusing on recruiting committed members, screening nominees and training officials responsible for submitting agents’ details to INEC.

PDP trains officials, warns against double agents

The PDP has begun training its state executives and officials responsible for uploading the details of its polling agents to INEC’s online portal.

At a capacity-building session in Abuja on November 2, the party’s National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, urged participants to take the exercise seriously and extend the training to officials at the local government and ward levels.

He stressed that election monitoring began at polling units, where party agents played an important role in protecting candidates’ interests.

The party’s National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, also cautioned state executives against engaging individuals who were not committed members of the party.

Bature warned against the recruitment of so-called double agents who could abandon their responsibilities or work for rival parties during elections.

He urged party officials to properly screen nominees and prioritise loyal members who had demonstrated commitment to the organisation.

The PDP subsequently directed its state secretaries to submit their agents’ details to the national leadership by December 2, ahead of the commission’s submission deadline.

Labour Party draws lessons from 2023 election

The Labour Party has also commenced the recruitment, screening and notification of polling agents as part of its preparations for the 2027 elections.

Its Interim National Chairman, Nenadi Usman, said the party was drawing lessons from the 2023 general elections, particularly the difficulties it encountered in obtaining comprehensive coverage of polling units.
