Two-time Academy Award-winning actor Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, have been found dead at their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The Independent confirmed the tragic news on Thursday, reporting that the couple’s dog was also found deceased at the scene.

Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza stated that no foul play is suspected, though the cause of their deaths has not yet been disclosed.

Officials are currently awaiting approval for a search warrant to continue the investigation.

Gene Hackman, 95, was widely regarded as one of the most versatile actors of his generation, with an illustrious career spanning decades.

He delivered unforgettable performances in films such as *The French Connection*, *Unforgiven*, and *The Royal Tenenbaums*.

The actor retired from Hollywood in 2004, stepping away from the spotlight after his final film, *Welcome to Mooseport*.

In a 2008 interview, Hackman confirmed his retirement, stating he no longer wished to act, despite being advised to keep the possibility open.

His wife, Betsy Arakawa, 63, was a former classical pianist. The couple, married since 1991, had been living a quiet life in the Santa Fe Summit community.

They were last publicly seen together in 2023, dining at a local seafood restaurant, marking their first public appearance in two decades.
