Gingerrr Nollywood movie opens with N82.8m, marking a standout debut for the female-led heist comedy and signalling a fresh era for Nigerian blockbusters

Gingerrr Nollywood movie has roared into cinemas with a bold opening of ₦82.8 million, cementing its place as one of the biggest local debuts of 2025.

Directed by Yemi Morafa and released nationwide on 26 September, the action-comedy grossed ₦78.9 million in just three days, before topping ₦82 million by the end of its first weekend.

Backed by executive producers Bolaji Ogunmola, Kiekie, and Bisola Aiyeola, Gingerrr brings together a star-studded ensemble including Blossom Chukwujekwu, Faithia Williams, Lateef Adedimeji, Odunlade Adekola, Shaffy Bello, and Mr. Macaroni.

Set in modern-day Nigeria, the plot follows four desperate women who team up for a high-stakes heist as their only hope for a better life.

But when secrets surface and alliances fray, the plan unravels in spectacular fashion.

What sets Gingerrr apart is its blend of flashy action, sharp comedy, and a female-led narrative—a formula that first struck gold with Sugar Rush in 2019.

That earlier hit, also starring Aiyeola alongside Adesua Etomi and Bimbo Ademoye, opened with over ₦57 million and redefined the box office potential for Nollywood films fronted by women.

Like its predecessor, Gingerrr places complex female characters at the heart of the story, challenging traditional roles and delivering a crowd-pleasing mix of style and substance.

The similarities in tone, pacing and visual energy are unmistakable—and intentional.

For many, this marks a new chapter in Nigerian cinema.

Gone are the days when romantic dramas dominated. Audiences are now embracing thrillers, crime comedies and high-stakes storytelling with unapologetically bold female leads.
