The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday night along Olasanoye Street, leaving residents in shock and mourning.

According to police sources, the victim was attacked shortly after returning home from work.

“A complaint was made to the police on Monday morning that he was attacked in his apartment after he returned from his place of work on Sunday night,” a police source told our correspondent in confidence.

The source added that the robbers stole his belongings and transferred money from his bank account before shooting him in the head.

His lifeless body was later discovered by neighbours who had earlier heard gunshots.

However, in a conflicting account, an online platform known as Confra Naija, which often reports on cult-related incidents, alleged that the killing might have been a reprisal attack by suspected cultists.

According to the platform, the assailants had targeted the victim’s brother, alleged to be a member of a rival group.

“The Eiye cultists came to attack Sebastine’s brother, who is a member of Aye. When they didn’t find him, they turned on Sebastine. They forced him to unlock his phone, made him transfer money, and then shot him in the head,” the platform wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Meanwhile, friends and customers have taken to social media to mourn the deceased, describing him as a hardworking and kind individual.

A Facebook user, Glory Hope, wrote:

“Very hard-working guy, why did this happen to you, na? Very good barber chai, I feel so sad since I heard the news. RIP guy.”

When contacted, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident but said the police were still investigating the cause of death.

“He sustained an injury to the head and died on his way to the hospital. The police can’t say if it is a gunshot or machete injury. The family reported the incident and took the corpse to the mortuary,” she said.

This latest killing comes just weeks after two teenage customers were shot dead during a robbery at a barbershop in the Cele Nica community of Ojo, raising concerns about rising cult clashes and violent crimes in Lagos suburbs.
