JAMB CAPS is fully restored as the board urges schools to speed up 2026/2027 admissions ahead of the October 31 deadline for public universities

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, on Monday, September 28, 2026, restored its Central Admissions Processing System, CAPS, and urged Nigerian tertiary institutions to accelerate the 2026/2027 admission process after a temporary disruption.

JAMB said the system was “fully restored and is now operational”, giving institutions access to the platform as they work towards completing admissions within the approved timelines.

“With CAPS back online, institutions are urged to accelerate their admission processes to recover lost time and meet the agreed admission deadlines,” the board said.

The restoration is particularly significant for prospective students whose admission decisions depend on the electronic processing system.

JAMB also advised candidates who receive admission offers to accept them promptly, helping institutions complete their admission processes within the prescribed period.

For the 2026/2027 academic session, public universities have until October 31, 2026, to complete their admissions, while private universities have been given until November 30.

Other tertiary institutions have until December 31, 2026, to conclude their admission exercises.

The board’s latest announcement comes as institutions work to process applications and admission offers following the temporary disruption to CAPS.

JAMB also asked candidates who had previously indicated that they were awaiting examination results to upload or verify their credentials following the release of the 2026 National Examinations Council Senior School Certificate Examination results.

The board said the update was necessary to ensure candidates’ academic credentials are available to institutions considering them for admission.

“Following the release of the 2026 NECO SSCE results, candidates who previously awaited their results are advised to upload and/or verify them promptly,” JAMB said.

The board explained that having the required credentials on the system would allow institutions to consider eligible candidates as admission processing intensifies.

The development is particularly important for candidates who may have been unable to complete parts of their admission process while awaiting their NECO results.

JAMB acknowledged the disruption and expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to candidates, institutions and other stakeholders.

The board also thanked affected stakeholders for their patience and understanding during the interruption.

With JAMB CAPS now operational, institutions are expected to make use of the remaining admission window to process offers and meet the deadlines set for their respective categories.

Candidates, meanwhile, have been encouraged to monitor their admission status, accept offers when made and ensure that their examination credentials are correctly uploaded or verified.

The board’s reminder also places renewed emphasis on timely action, particularly for candidates seeking admission into public universities before the October 31 deadline.
