Jeremy Doku insists Manchester City showed quality against Real Madrid and can still enjoy a successful season

Belgium winger Jeremy Doku has expressed confidence that Manchester City can still enjoy a successful season despite being eliminated by Real Madrid from the Champions League.

City suffered a 3-0 defeat at the Bernabeu Stadium last week before falling 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, giving Real Madrid a 5-1 aggregate victory.

The home side played most of the second leg with ten men following captain Bernardo Silva’s red card for handball.

Doku highlighted positives from both matches, praising City’s performance even when reduced to ten players.

“We played well with 11 against 11 and 10 against 11. We created chances,” he said. “If we play like that every game, we’ll put many teams in trouble.”

The 23-year-old added that City’s campaign is far from over, with the team still competing for three trophies.

“There’s still a lot to play for. We’re still in three competitions, three trophies to win. If we do that, it’s still going to be a great season,” he said.

Looking ahead to the League Cup final against Arsenal at Wembley on Sunday, Doku described the fixture as “a good cure” for City’s European disappointment. He insisted the squad remains united and motivated.

Doku also spoke about Silva’s sending-off, emphasising that the team stands firmly behind their captain.

“Obviously he’s disappointed. Knowing him, he takes it very personally. But even after it, we stood there, we were in the game. We know his contribution is massive,” he said.

City’s campaign in the Premier League continues, with the team trailing leaders Arsenal by nine points.

Despite the European exit, Doku believes lessons from the Real Madrid matches can inspire strong performances in domestic competitions.
