Joe Aribo Leicester City loan confirmed as the Foxes sign the Nigeria international to strengthen their Championship squad

Leicester City have completed the signing of Nigeria international Joe Aribo on loan, bolstering their squad as they intensify their push for success this season.

The Foxes confirmed the move on Monday, with Sky Sports reporting that the deal will see Aribo join the club on a temporary basis.

The 29-year-old midfielder brings proven Premier League and Sky Bet Championship experience, having featured prominently for Southampton and Scottish giants Rangers.

Aribo arrives at the King Power Stadium after making 111 appearances for Southampton across four seasons in England’s top two divisions.

Speaking to Foxes Hub after completing the move, Aribo said he was eager to make an immediate impact.

“For me, it’s amazing to have got it done and I just can’t wait to get going,” he said. “I’ve always known the squad is good. I’m so certain about where we can get to and what we can do together. It’s just good to be a part of it.”

Born in Camberwell, England, Aribo began his professional career with non-league side Staines Town in 2014 before joining Charlton Athletic in 2015.

He established himself as a regular at Charlton during the 2016/17 season, performances that earned him a move to Rangers, where he enjoyed a highly successful spell.

At the Glasgow club, Aribo made 149 appearances in all competitions, scoring 26 goals and winning the Scottish Premiership title in the 2020/21 season.

He also lifted the Scottish Cup in 2021/22 and featured extensively in European competitions.

One of the highlights of his Rangers career came in the 2022 UEFA Europa League final, where he scored against Eintracht Frankfurt, although Rangers eventually lost on penalties in Seville.

At international level, Aribo has earned 34 caps for Nigeria since making his debut in a friendly against Ukraine in August 2019.

He was part of the Super Eagles squad that finished runners-up at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Aribo is expected to link up immediately with his new team-mates ahead of Leicester City’s Sky Bet Championship away fixture against Birmingham City on Saturday, February 7.
