Kano drone plan unveiled by Governor Yusuf aims to boost border security with drones and logistics after fresh bandit attacks

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Tuesday in Tsanyawa announced a bold Kano drone plan to strengthen surveillance and rapid-response operations in border communities hit by recurrent bandit attacks.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

Governor Yusuf made the disclosure while assessing the readiness of Joint Task Force personnel at their bases in Tsanyawa and Shanono Local Government Areas, where armed groups recently carried out coordinated raids.

The inspection followed months of rising insecurity along the Kano–Katsina boundary, a stretch that has witnessed repeated incursions and urgent multi-agency deployments.

The Governor appealed to residents of the affected settlements to support security operatives with actionable intelligence, stressing that local input remained vital to curbing further assaults.

He said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu responded positively when briefed on the worsening situation and the call for federal reinforcement.

Governor Yusuf urged the Joint Task Force to intensify efforts to secure the release of kidnapped residents taken during the latest attacks.

He described the violence as tragic and assured communities that every abducted victim would be recovered.

He said the government would acquire drones and additional logistics to expand surveillance capacity and enable swift intervention across vulnerable corridors.

He noted that insecurity of this scale was new to Kano and pledged that the state would do everything possible to prevent it from taking root.

During the assessment tour, Governor Yusuf met families of kidnapped victims and conveyed his condolences.

He assured them that operations to rescue their loved ones were being stepped up with renewed determination.

Recent attacks in Tsanyawa and Shanono reportedly led to the abduction of between five and ten people, while one woman was killed during one of the incidents, deepening fears among rural communities.
