Katsina violent attack suspects were arrested after villagers in Musawa LGA were injured during a machete assault

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested six suspects over a violent attack on residents of Keku Village in Musawa Local Government Area of Katsina State during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, disclosed the arrests in a statement made available to journalists on Friday in Katsina.

According to the statement, the incident occurred on Wednesday at about 2:00 p.m. when a group of six men allegedly stormed the community armed with sticks and machetes, attacking villagers and causing multiple injuries.

The police said operatives responded swiftly to the distress call and arrested the suspects at the scene.

Those arrested were identified as Dayyabu Salisu, 25; Usama Mansur, 23; Yunusa Nura, 27; Abdulmumini Alka, 23; Buhari Suleiman, 27; and Abubakar Safiyanu, 27.

Security operatives also recovered machetes, sticks and motorcycles believed to have been used during the assault.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects criminally conspired to disrupt the peaceful Sallah celebration and breach the relative peace being enjoyed in the area,” the statement said.

The command added that the rapid intervention of personnel from the Violent Crime Response Unit prevented the situation from escalating further.

Victims injured during the Katsina violent attack were reportedly rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.

The police confirmed that the suspects would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar Fage, condemned the attack and reassured residents of the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.

Fage urged members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities through the command’s emergency lines.

“The Command reiterates its zero-tolerance for thuggery, mob action, and any act capable of disrupting public peace,” the statement added.

The arrests came amid heightened security operations across several states during the Eid celebrations, with police authorities intensifying efforts to prevent violence and maintain public order.
