Kebbi State government sets up a committee to investigate the deaths of two children at Zuru General Hospital amid claims of a wrongful injection

The Kebbi State Government has established a special committee to investigate the controversial deaths of two children at the General Hospital, Zuru.

The panel was constituted following public outcry over reports that the children may have died after receiving a wrongful injection.

According to a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Yakubu Tafida, the committee will be chaired by the Commissioner for Information, Yakubu Ahmed, with the Commissioners for Health, Sama’ila Augie, and Establishment, Manu Dogondaji, serving as members. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Zaki Abubakar Zaki, will act as secretary.

“The committee is expected to carry out a thorough and impartial investigation into the unfortunate incident, establish the immediate and remote causes of the deaths, and recommend appropriate measures, including sanctions where necessary,” Tafida said. He added that the government would hold anyone found culpable accountable under the law.

The panel has been tasked with determining whether negligence or malpractice contributed to the children’s deaths, identifying individuals linked to the incident, and assessing the validity of claims regarding the allegedly wrongful injection.

Members have been given a one-week deadline to submit their findings and were directed to commence work immediately.

The incident, which occurred earlier this week, has sparked outrage in the community, with residents and family members demanding justice.

Allegations suggest the children fell critically ill shortly after being administered an injection at the hospital, raising concerns about medical procedures and oversight.

Zuru, a key town in southern Kebbi, serves as a referral hub for surrounding communities, making the General Hospital a crucial healthcare provider.

Health authorities have yet to confirm the precise cause of death, but the government’s swift action is intended to reassure the public of its commitment to accountability and improved healthcare standards.
