Ogun Labour Party accuses APC of digital manipulation, claiming electronic registration inflates membership ahead of 2027 elections

The Ogun State chapter of the Labour Party has accused the All Progressives Congress of using its ongoing electronic membership registration to allegedly manipulate figures and project false popularity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement on Wednesday, Chief Oluwabukola Soyoye, state chairman of the Labour Party, claimed the APC’s e-registration exercise was designed to inflate membership digitally because the ruling party could no longer mobilise supporters openly.

He described Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration as widely rejected by the electorate.

“The people of Ogun are now wiser. They have deliberately refused to participate in any open, physical APC registration because they know the ruling party has failed them,” Soyoye said.

He added that the electronic platform allowed figures to be fabricated behind closed doors, creating a misleading narrative of political dominance.

Soyoye further alleged that the e-registration was “not a genuine political exercise but a fraudulent digital operation designed to manufacture legitimacy for a government that has lost the confidence of the people.”

He accused the APC of “running away from the people” and hiding behind technology to avoid public scrutiny.

The Labour Party called on security agencies, civil society organisations, and the Independent National Electoral Commission to monitor political activities in Ogun State and guard against what it described as digital electoral manipulation.

Soyoye reaffirmed the party’s commitment to offering a “credible, transparent and people-centred alternative” to the APC-led government.

In response, the APC’s Director of Publicity in Ogun State, Mr Femi Nuberu, said the party would respond “at the appropriate time.”

The APC commenced electronic registration and re-registration on Tuesday as part of a drive to expand its membership base and strengthen internal cohesion.

Speaking at the flag-off, Governor Abiodun, represented by his deputy Noimot Salako-Oyedele, described the exercise as an opportunity for members to deepen commitment to the party.

He said the electronic system would provide a credible, transparent, and technology-driven database, eliminate manipulation, enhance accuracy, and align the party with global best practices in political organisation.
