Lagos Poultry Association assures residents there is no egg scarcity, highlighting abundant supply and low prices across the state

The Lagos State chapter of the Poultry Association of Nigeria has dismissed reports of egg scarcity in the state, affirming that eggs are readily available and affordable, the association confirmed on Tuesday.

Mr Mojeed Iyiola, Chairman of the Lagos chapter, told the News Agency of Nigeria that eggs remain in surplus despite claims of shortages in certain areas.

He suggested that any perceived scarcity is likely due to traders’ lack of funds rather than actual unavailability.

“We recently displayed crates of eggs across the eight zones of Lagos from 31st December 2025 till the New Year at low prices,” Iyiola said.

“Crates sold between ₦4,800 to ₦5,000 compared with the usual farm gate price of ₦4,900 to ₦5,200 to avoid a market glut.”

Iyiola added that further government intervention during the Easter period could lead to an additional drop in egg and chicken prices, making poultry products even more accessible to Lagos residents.

“Some traders may not have stock because they owe suppliers, who then withhold new deliveries. For now, there is no scarcity, and prices have been reasonable due to Lagos State Government support,” he explained.

The chairman emphasised that the state government is considering renewed interventions to subsidise poultry products ahead of Easter celebrations, which would stabilise prices further.
