LaGuardia plane collision involving two Delta jets leaves one injured. Incident occurred during taxi and landing; airport operations remain unaffected

LaGuardia plane collision involving two Delta subsidiary jets on Wednesday evening left one person injured but did not disrupt operations at the busy New York airport, authorities confirmed.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:58pm local time (0158 GMT Thursday), when two Endeavor Air planes — operated under Delta Air Lines — made contact on the runway.

According to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, one aircraft was landing while the other was taxiing in preparation for departure.

One individual was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while Delta confirmed a flight attendant suffered a minor injury during the event.

Images circulating in US media — yet to be independently verified — appear to show damage to the nose of one of the aircraft.

The airline described the situation as a “low-speed collision during taxi.”

In its preliminary findings, Delta said that the wing of the aircraft taxiing for takeoff to Roanoke, Virginia, made contact with the fuselage of the arriving plane.

Both planes together carried 93 passengers and crew. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported among passengers.

Despite the collision, the Port Authority confirmed that operations at LaGuardia Airport continued uninterrupted, with minimal impact on air traffic.

Delta said it would “work with all relevant authorities to review this incident,” emphasising that safety remains the airline’s top priority.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
