Governor Seyi Makinde unveils the Oyo 2026 budget, proposing higher spending on infrastructure, education and health under the Oyo 2026 budget plan

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Monday in Ibadan presented the Oyo 2026 budget to the State House of Assembly, proposing an ambitious N891.99 billion spending plan that surpasses the N684 billion approved for the current year.

Governor Makinde told lawmakers that the proposal allocates N389.34 billion to recurrent expenditure and N502.65 billion to capital projects.

He said the financial blueprint is designed to consolidate ongoing development efforts across the state and stimulate sustained economic growth.

The presentation was witnessed by prominent traditional rulers, including the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, whose presence underscored the ceremonial significance of the moment.

Makinde explained that infrastructure receives the largest allocation at N210.02 billion, reflecting the administration’s pledge to complete major roadwork and public asset upgrades.

Education follows with N155.21 billion, while the health sector is earmarked for N70.81 billion to strengthen service delivery across hospitals and primary care centres.

Agriculture is allotted N19.99 billion, with the governor noting that the sector remains critical to job creation and food security.

The governor added that the budget aims to deliver real improvements in people’s lives, calling it a courageous step towards achieving a more resilient state economy.

He said the spending plan balances fiscal responsibility with bold investment choices, describing it as a roadmap intended to energise public confidence.
