The incident occurred on Sunday after Lawal was accused of theft. Eyewitness accounts suggest that two car park officials tied his hands and legs and assaulted him, ignoring his repeated pleas and those of residents to release him.

Sheriff Ojon, who shared the details on Facebook, cited an eyewitness claiming that one of the attackers, referred to as “Alhaji,” refused to untie Lawal despite appeals from bystanders. The victim reportedly warned that he was close to dying, but the assault continued.

Residents later protested at a nearby police division on Monday, condemning the alleged brutality. Images of Lawal circulated online showing visible bruises on his body.
