The former Argentina captain made the revelation during an interview with Spanish news agency EFE in Oviedo on Thursday.

Messi explained that choosing the best goals of his career was difficult because of the significance of the many memorable moments he has enjoyed at club and international levels.

However, he singled out his goal in the 2022 World Cup final because of what it meant to him and Argentina.

“It’s extremely hard to choose. If I had to choose two goals that hold a special place in my life, I would probably pick a goal from the 2022 World Cup final, because of what it meant,” Messi said.

The 2022 final remains one of the defining moments of Messi’s career. Argentina defeated France on penalties after a thrilling 3-3 draw in Qatar, with Messi scoring twice during the match.

For his second choice, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner pointed to his Barcelona career, suggesting that a goal in a UEFA Champions League final or an El Clásico encounter could make the list.

“As for Barcelona, I might choose a goal from a Champions League final, an El Clasico, or another particularly important match,” he said.

Messi spent most of his senior career at Barcelona, where he became the club’s all-time leading scorer and won numerous domestic and European titles before leaving in 2021.

His performances in high-profile matches against Real Madrid and in European competition produced some of the most celebrated moments of his career.

The forward, who has scored hundreds of goals for club and country, continues to reflect on the achievements that have defined his time in football.
