Mohamed Salah’s Besiktas transfer collapses after reported disagreements over shirt sales revenue and agent commission

Former Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah will not be joining Turkish giants Besiktas after negotiations over a proposed free transfer reportedly broke down due to disagreements on key contractual terms.

Salah, who became a free agent after leaving Liverpool at the end of the 2025-26 season, had been strongly linked with a move to the Turkish Super Lig side during the summer transfer window.

However, reports indicate that the deal has now collapsed after both parties failed to reach an agreement on the distribution of revenue from shirt sales and the commission due to the Egypt international’s representative.

According to Polymarket Sports, the two financial issues proved decisive, ending Besiktas’ hopes of completing one of the biggest free-agent signings of the transfer window.

The collapse represents a setback for Besiktas, which had hoped to strengthen its squad with one of African football’s most decorated players ahead of the new campaign. The club is now expected to turn its attention to alternative high-profile attacking targets before the transfer window closes.

For Salah, the search for a new club continues following the end of his successful spell at Liverpool, where he established himself as one of the Premier League’s greatest forwards.

The 34-year-old also featured for Egypt at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, helping the Pharaohs reach the Round of 16 before their campaign ended with defeat to eventual finalists Argentina.
