Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan suspension remains in force, says NASS, pending Appeal Court ruling on her challenge to the Senate’s decision

Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan suspension from the Senate will continue until the Court of Appeal delivers judgment on her case, the National Assembly Management has declared.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, was suspended in March 2025 after a heated exchange with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seating arrangements during plenary.

Challenging the decision, she approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, which upheld the Senate’s action. Dissatisfied, she took the matter to the appellate court.

In a letter dated September 4, 2025, Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, responded to Akpoti-Uduaghan’s notification of her intention to resume duties. She argued that her six-month suspension ended on that date.

However, the management clarified that her suspension formally began on March 6, 2025, and that the matter remains legally unresolved.

“The matter, therefore, remains sub judice, and until the judicial process is concluded and the Senate formally reviews the suspension in the light of the court’s pronouncement, no administrative action can be taken by this office to facilitate your resumption,” the letter stated.

The development means Akpoti-Uduaghan’s constituents will remain unrepresented in the Red Chamber until the Appeal Court delivers its ruling.
