A Nigerian suspect was arrested in India for allegedly supplying N812m worth of drugs to nearly 2,000 consumers in Telangana via online platforms.

A Nigerian national has been arrested in India for allegedly supplying about N812 million (Rs 5 crore) worth of drugs to nearly 1,975 consumers in Telangana.

According to a Times of India report, the suspect, identified only as Nick, allegedly carried out the transactions through an online platform over a period of two months.

Investigations by the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau revealed that Nick, described as a major cartel operator based in Nigeria, used two phone numbers operated from abroad.

Authorities mapped around 30 courier offices frequently used to ship the drugs.

Officials also discovered that merchandise purchased on Flipkart was used to conceal narcotics, with several Nigerians in Delhi identified for making large online purchases, exposing the entire supply chain.

This arrest follows a recent crackdown in which more than 50 Nigerians were detained for overstaying their visas, during a joint operation by Eagle Force Telangana, the Delhi Police Crime Branch, the NCB, and Noida Police.

All accused individuals wanted by Telangana police have been handed over for further investigation.

The case adds to a growing list of incidents involving Nigerians in India, including arrests related to visa violations, drug trafficking, robbery, and suspected murder.
