Nnamdi Kanu 2027 election boycott was threatened by the All Igbo Youth Forum, which vowed to mobilise 10 million youths to march on Abuja if the detained IPOB leader is not released.

The group made the declaration on Tuesday through its National President, Chief Chinedu Obilor.

Obilor stated that the Forum had initially planned a protest but paused it following talks with Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Benjamin Kalu.

According to him, Kalu assured the group that discussions with President Bola Tinubu regarding Kanu’s release were in progress.

“We believe the President will listen to the cry of Ndigbo and release Kanu,” Obilor said, but maintained that their demand remains non-negotiable. “They cannot leave Nnamdi Kanu and be talking of 2027.”

The Forum gave Kalu a two-month window to engage the President, warning that failure to act would trigger a mass protest. “If they fail, we will march 10 million strong to Abuja and dare them to jail us all,” Obilor declared.

He criticised the continued detention of Kanu despite the release of other agitators and questioned the fairness of the process. “If they feel they will use Nnamdi Kanu to do politics, we will not agree,” he said.

Obilor also condemned what he described as the exclusion of Igbos from key political appointments and warned against any attempt to deny the South the presidency in 2027. “Any coalition that won’t cede the ticket to the South will not fly,” he warned.

He accused some Igbo elites of sabotaging Kanu’s cause and misleading the President. “Some of them are behind Kanu’s plight and they are deceiving the President,” he said, urging Tinubu to listen to the youths who live and work in the region, not political elites with no grassroots following.
