Nurses strike in Oyo State is set to commence at midnight on Wednesday, July 30, as members of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) join a nationwide seven-day warning strike.

In a statement issued Tuesday by the Oyo State NANNM Secretary, Mr. Emmanuel Aina, the strike was described as a direct response to unresolved welfare concerns and inadequate staffing.

“This seven-day warning strike is a litmus test for our readiness to pursue a more serious struggle if our demands are not addressed,” Aina warned.

He confirmed that nurses and midwives in all healthcare institutions—federal, state, and local—are expected to fully comply from July 30 through August 5, 2025.

Among NANNM’s eight-point demand are:

Full implementation of the new minimum wage for nurses at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomosho.

Payment of uniform allowances in line with public service rules.

Mass recruitment to alleviate critical staff shortages.

Enforcement of the 25% CONHESS salary adjustment.

Hazard allowance implementation for nurses at the local government level.

Aina emphasized that the strike is meant to highlight the deteriorating conditions nurses face daily, especially in the wake of increased workloads without corresponding compensation.

He reiterated that official notifications had been sent to relevant authorities and urged all members to adhere strictly to the industrial action.
