Nyesom Wike says former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has no choice but to leave the PDP, accusing him of repeatedly destabilising the party

Nyesom Wike has declared that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has no choice but to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing him of repeatedly undermining and destabilising the opposition party.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) said Atiku had never been a loyal or consistent member of the PDP and could no longer use the platform for personal ambition.

“They have never been committed members. Atiku has no choice but to leave, because he wanted to use the PDP, but knowing that I’m there, he cannot get that platform,” Wike said.

The former Rivers State governor, known for his fiery stance within the PDP’s internal disputes, accused Atiku and other key figures of contributing to the party’s instability over the years.

“Those are people who destroyed the party. How many times has he left the PDP and returned?” he queried.

Wike also mocked Atiku’s allies, particularly Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo, whom he said had once vowed not to let the PDP collapse.

“Diri has said he has left PDP and I’m one of the happiest persons today. The same him and Makinde said they will not allow anybody to destroy the PDP and fall to the gutter. Who has entered the gutters today?” he added.

Wike’s comments come amid renewed internal rifts within the PDP following the aftermath of the 2023 general elections, where Atiku lost his presidential bid to President Bola Tinubu.

The FCT minister, who now serves in Tinubu’s cabinet despite being a PDP member, has continued to maintain that his loyalty is to national unity and good governance rather than partisan politics.
