Oando Oil and Gas Deal award follows its landmark NAOC acquisition, recognised by IJGlobal for innovation and execution strength

Oando PLC has won the Oil and Gas Deal of the Year, Africa, at the 2025 IJGlobal Investor Awards for its acquisition of Nigerian Agip Oil Company Limited from Italian energy firm Eni.

The transaction is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most significant upstream mergers and acquisitions in recent years.

IJGlobal announced the award at its annual investor ceremony after an independent assessment by senior international energy and infrastructure finance professionals.

Judges evaluated transactions based on innovation, execution strength and sector-wide impact.

The IJGlobal Investor Awards recognise outstanding project finance, corporate finance and M&A transactions across global markets.

Past recipients include leading international investors, energy majors and top-tier financial institutions.

Oando’s Chief Legal Officer, Efuntomi Akpeneye, said the award reflects the discipline behind the deal.

She said the transaction required rigorous due diligence, precise risk management and deep regulatory insight.

Akpeneye said the structure was designed to protect the company and strengthen its long-term position.

She added that the recognition validates the quality of execution and Oando’s commitment to complex, high-impact transactions.
