Ogun waste disposal sanctions affect 128 residents and 20 industries for illegal dumping, as OGWAMA vows stricter enforcement

Ogun waste disposal sanctions have been issued to 128 residents and 20 industries across the state for indiscriminate dumping of refuse, the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) has confirmed.

In a statement released by the Special Adviser and Managing Director of OGWAMA, Abayomi Hunye, the residents were caught disposing of waste along medians and public spaces in Sango-Ota, Ifo, Ijebu-Ode, Papa Lanto, and Abeokuta.

They were sentenced to hours of community service.

The industries were equally sanctioned after their trucks were apprehended dumping waste on road verges along the Lagos-Ibadan and Sagamu-Abeokuta expressways.

According to Hunye, the Enforcement Squad apprehended the offenders in the early hours of Tuesday. He stressed that their refusal to engage government-approved waste collectors was “an affront to lawful orders” and a direct threat to public health.

“What is of concern is the fact that those apprehended were deliberately determined to sabotage the state government’s efforts at keeping the state clean,” he said, adding that improper disposal endangers law-abiding residents.

Hunye assured that OGWAMA’s enforcement team will continue monitoring roadsides and public places to catch offenders, reinforcing the state’s commitment to a cleaner, healthier, and safer environment.
