Governor Okpebholo launches a decisive security response after a bandit threat video emerges in Edo Central, intensifying operations across key communities.

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo on Wednesday in Benin City directed an intensified Okpebholo security response after meeting with security agencies over a viral video in which a self-acclaimed bandit threatened attacks across the Edo Central Senatorial District.

Governor Okpebholo was briefed on the circulating footage suggesting the presence of armed groups around Ekpoma and nearby communities.

According to Chief Press Secretary Fred Itua, the governor has elevated security to a top-tier priority and activated an already robust surveillance structure designed for early detection and swift counter-action.

Itua said the governor convened the Department of State Services, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, local vigilantes, and the Edo State Special Security Squad to coordinate an expanded operational sweep across forests, border communities, and established flashpoints.

He stated that joint search-and-comb missions were underway, backed by enhanced intelligence gathering and coordinated patrols intended to disrupt criminal networks and deny them safe havens.

He added that notable breakthroughs had already been recorded, with arrests linked to recent security breaches and several leads being actively pursued.

The governor’s aim, he said, is to ensure that all parts of Edo State remain secure for residents, commuters, and investors.

Officials emphasised that the ongoing operations would be sustained until full stability is achieved across urban centres and rural communities.

The statement urged the public to avoid panic-driven narratives, misinformation, and unverified videos, noting that such material can undermine the morale of security operatives and fuel unnecessary anxiety.

Itua reaffirmed that Governor Okpebholo is unwavering in his commitment to safeguarding lives and property, describing the administration’s approach as comprehensive, uncompromising, and backed by the full weight of lawful authority.
