The Osun State Police Command on Thursday, May 28, 2026, launched a manhunt for an unidentified driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the lives of two police operatives along the Osogbo–Gbongan road in Oogi community, Osun State.

The Command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident in a statement, saying the operatives, identified simply as Kehinde and Tobi, were travelling on a motorcycle when they were struck by a Lexus vehicle on Wednesday in Oogi town.

According to Abiodun Ojelabi, the driver fled the scene immediately after the collision, abandoning the vehicle in a shocking and reckless act that has intensified the ongoing investigation.

The Osun police manhunt hit-and-run case has since triggered a full-scale probe, with officers working to trace and apprehend the fleeing suspect.

Ojelabi said the Lexus vehicle and the motorcycle involved in the crash had been recovered and taken into police custody as part of evidence gathering.

“The two police operatives were travelling on a motorcycle when they got hit. One Lexus car hit them. Kehinde and Tobi are the two operatives involved,” Ojelabi stated.

He confirmed that the force had intensified efforts to locate the driver, adding that investigators were tracking leads to establish the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

The police spokesperson described the development as deeply painful, noting that one of the deceased officers had already been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.

He assured that the command would ensure justice is served, stressing that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
