Oyo bus crash leaves three dead and five rescued after a commercial bus plunged into a river in Ona-Ara, Ibadan. Firefighters led rescue efforts

The Oyo State Fire Services Agency has recovered three bodies and rescued five passengers after a commercial bus plunged into a river along Amunloko Road in Ona-Ara Local Government Area on Wednesday.

The Oyo bus crash was confirmed on Thursday in Ibadan by Moroof Akinwande, who also serves as Chairman of the state fire service agency.

Akinwande said the agency received a distress call at about 3:38 pm from a resident, Fadeke Yusuf, reporting that a vehicle had plunged into the Ariyo River.

Firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene, launching a rapid rescue operation.

According to Akinwande, the emergency team discovered that a Suzuki commercial bus with registration number OSUN LEW 484 XA had lost control and plunged into the river while conveying eight passengers.

Five occupants were rescued alive and taken to Ona-Ara Private Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Three other passengers were recovered dead from the wreckage.

The remains of the deceased were handed over to officers from the Nigeria Police Force, led by Aishat Ibrahim.

Akinwande attributed the fatal accident to reckless driving, warning motorists to exercise greater caution on the roads.

Officials of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority from the Ona-Ara Division and the chairman of the local government, Glorious Temitope, were present during the rescue efforts.

The fire service chief urged drivers to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, stressing that careful driving remains the most effective way to prevent avoidable tragedies on the state’s roads.
