Oyo government orders 202 teachers not absorbed by TESCOM to return to their LGUBEAs immediately or face salary sanctions, citing non-compliance

Oyo government orders 202 teachers to return to their Local Government Universal Basic Education Authorities, following their non-integration into the Post-Primary Schools Teaching Service Commission.

This directive came from the Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Nureni Adeniran, during a meeting with Education Secretaries from the 33 LGUBEAs in Ibadan on Friday.

In October 2022, the state had absorbed nearly 2,000 primary school teachers seconded to TESCOM under the previous administration.

However, 202 teachers not absorbed into the system have since failed to return to their LGUBEAs or OYOSUBEB, despite still receiving salaries from the current government.

Adeniran expressed concern over the situation, warning that continued refusal to return would result in salary suspensions.

“These teachers are currently floating and their appointments remain unregularised,” he said. “Violating this order of the governor is tantamount to gross misconduct.”

He explained that some teachers did not meet the criteria for transfer, while others could not be absorbed due to a lack of vacancies within TESCOM.

Oyo government orders 202 teachers to comply immediately or risk being delisted from payrolls. Adeniran further noted that the discrepancy in the number of teachers on the Board’s payroll and those physically teaching is unjustifiable.

“Governor Seyi Makinde had, in 2022, made it clear that non-absorbed teachers should return to OYOSUBEB,” Adeniran added.

The chairman has now mandated an urgent compilation of names and local government assignments of the affected teachers.

In a separate announcement, Adeniran introduced the launch of the School-Based Management Committee-School Improvement Programme (SBMC-SIP), in partnership with the Universal Basic Education Commission.

He stated that the SBMC-SIP promotes community involvement in basic education by disbursing funds directly to committees for school infrastructure and learning improvements.

“This initiative is designed to enhance access, equity, and quality education at the grassroots,” he said, urging Education Secretaries to monitor implementation at their LGUBEAs.
