Mary Njoku condemns Oyo schoolchildren abduction outrage, reacting to the kidnapping of 46 children and rising insecurity concerns in Nigeria

Nollywood actress and producer Mary Remmy Njoku has expressed deep outrage over the abduction of 46 schoolchildren in Oyo State, describing the incident as a painful reflection of Nigeria’s worsening insecurity and what she called a troubling sense of public desensitisation.

The filmmaker, who also serves as a senior figure within streaming platform IROKOtv, shared her reaction on her Instagram story on Tuesday, stating that she woke up “angry, heartbroken and deeply unsettled” over the fate of the kidnapped children.

In her emotional post, she questioned whether Nigerians have become accustomed to repeated incidents of kidnappings and violent attacks, warning that such developments risk becoming normalised if urgent action is not taken.

“Are we really saying that these kidnapped children are just gone?” she asked, adding that the situation raises difficult questions about national response and collective responsibility.

She further lamented what she described as growing public numbness to insecurity, asking whether the country had accepted abductions and banditry as part of everyday life.

The Oyo schoolchildren abduction outrage has continued to generate widespread condemnation across Nigeria, with several entertainment figures joining calls for urgent government intervention to secure the release of the victims.

Prominent Nollywood personalities including Ruth Kadiri, Funke Akindele, Toke Makinwa, Mercy Eke, Patience Ozokwo, Biola Bayo, Sotayo Gaga, Paul Okoye, Muyiwa Ademola, Adeniyi Johnson, Lateef Adedimeji, Kunle Remi and Lala Akindoju have all voiced concern over the incident and the broader insecurity situation affecting schools and communities.

They have collectively urged authorities to intensify efforts to protect lives and property, especially in vulnerable educational environments, as fears grow over the safety of children in affected regions.
