PANDEF urges mutual respect and reconciliation between political factions in Rivers State, calling for stability and a people-centred resolution

The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) Peace and Reconciliation Committee has called for political stability in Rivers State, urging all parties to prioritise the people’s mandate and work towards unity.

Speaking at a closed-door meeting in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, the Chairman of the Rivers Elders Forum, Rufus George, expressed optimism about the reconciliation process.

He emphasised that peace was achievable if all stakeholders exercised mutual respect and worked towards resolving political tensions.

The primary focus of the meeting was to foster unity between the two political factions in the state—Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike.

The crisis between the two has intensified in recent months, raising concerns about governance and stability in Rivers State.

George urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene and facilitate a peaceful resolution, given the potential implications of the conflict on governance and development.

His call was echoed by Niger Delta activist AnnKio Briggs, who applauded PANDEF’s involvement and stressed that political stability in Rivers State was crucial for the nation’s overall progress.

Briggs also urged the committee to encourage the presidency to engage the minister directly to achieve a lasting resolution.

The meeting was attended by prominent PANDEF members, including former Akwa Ibom State Governor Victor Attah (Chairman), Senator Roland Owie, Senator Emmanuel Essien, Col. Pam Ogar, Senator Stella Omu, and Engr. Dagogo Jack, among others.
