Political activist Usman Austin Okai urges PDP leaders to join ADC after court rulings, warning of risks ahead of 2027 elections

Political activist Usman Austin Okai from Kogi State has called on key Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders to leave the party and join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) immediately, citing recent court rulings that have unsettled the PDP.

Okai specifically urged Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, and members of the PDP’s Turaki faction to move to the ADC before the party begins its ward congresses.

His statement followed a Court of Appeal decision on 9 March 2026 that upheld a Federal High Court order invalidating the recognition of the PDP’s disputed Ibadan convention.

Okai warned that the ongoing legal challenges could jeopardise the prospects of politicians planning to contest in the 2027 elections.

“The court decision shows that the Supreme Court might also rule against the convention later,” Okai said.

“If that happens after party primaries, all candidates chosen under that convention could be disqualified. Serious politicians should not remain in the PDP.”

Describing the PDP as a “lost cause,” Okai suggested that staying in the party could inadvertently benefit the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He highlighted the ADC as a viable alternative, capable of becoming a strong platform to challenge the APC in 2027.

Okai also encouraged members of the Turaki faction and grassroots supporters to join the ADC and participate in its upcoming direct primaries, emphasising the need for a united and stronger opposition ahead of the next general elections.
