Police rescue abducted man in Bauchi after armed raid on Dagga village and launch a manhunt for about 12 fleeing gunmen, officials say

The Bauchi State Police Command on Tuesday said it has rescued a 45-year-old man abducted by armed gunmen in Dagga village and has launched a manhunt for the suspects who fled the scene.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, said in a statement that the victim, Kasimu Adamu, was abducted on 3 January 2026 when about 12 armed men stormed the village.

Habib said the rescue followed an intelligence tip-off from a resident, which led to a swift response by police operatives working alongside local hunters.

“Upon receipt of the report, a team of police operatives, in conjunction with local hunters, led by the Divisional Police Officer, SP Muhammad Garba, acted promptly, engaged the hoodlums and successfully rescued the victim unhurt, while the perpetrators fled,” the statement said.

Habib said efforts were under way to track down and arrest the suspects involved in the attack.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the officers and the local hunters for their prompt action and urged residents to continue to support the police with timely and credible information.

Aliyu appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies, stressing that maintaining safety is a shared responsibility.

Habib reiterated the police’s public safety message, urging residents to report suspicious activity, saying: “If you see something, say something.”
