PSG reach Champions League final 2026 after holding off Bayern Munich 6-5 on aggregate in a dramatic semi-final victory

Paris Saint-Germain reached the UEFA Champions League final on Wednesday after a disciplined 1-1 draw against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena secured a 6-5 aggregate victory, as Luis Enrique’s side combined resilience with attacking brilliance to progress to a second consecutive final.

PSG’s qualification for the Champions League final 2026 came after a dramatic semi-final tie that had already delivered one of the competition’s most thrilling first-leg encounters, a 5-4 victory in Paris that showcased the attacking power of both teams.

In Munich, the French champions struck early through Ousmane Dembélé, who finished a devastating counter-attack inside three minutes to silence the home crowd and tilt the tie further in PSG’s favour.

Bayern Munich responded with sustained pressure, but PSG produced a determined defensive performance that frustrated the German side for long spells, with the hosts struggling to convert dominance into clear chances.

Harry Kane eventually restored parity on the night, but his goal arrived too late to alter the outcome as PSG held firm under intense pressure to secure qualification.

PSG head coach Luis Enrique praised the maturity of his squad after the match, highlighting their ability to adapt under pressure.

“Tonight showed what type of team we are,” he said. “We showed our maturity, being able to defend as well as attack.”

The manager added that the victory was built on collective discipline rather than attacking flair alone, noting the importance of defensive organisation in high-pressure matches.

Defensive solidity was led by Willian Pacho, who delivered a commanding performance, winning all his duels and helping stabilise PSG’s back line throughout the encounter.

Warren Zaïre-Emery also impressed in an unfamiliar right-back role, stepping in for the injured Achraf Hakimi and delivering a composed and energetic display.

The result marks another milestone in PSG’s transformation under Luis Enrique, as the club continue to evolve from their star-heavy era into a more balanced and tactically disciplined unit.

Since their Qatari-backed rise began in 2011, PSG have pursued Champions League success relentlessly, finally lifting the trophy last year and now moving within reach of consecutive titles.

The French side are now only the second team in the Champions League era to reach back-to-back finals after Liverpool in 2019, and they will face Arsenal in Budapest on May 30.
