The Champions League last-16 first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday will see Real Madrid missing Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo Goes, and Eder Militao. Arbeloa said Mbappe’s knee sprain is improving, though he will not feature.

“We are Real Madrid and we should not feel lesser than anyone else,” Arbeloa told reporters. “It doesn’t matter the circumstance, we are full of hope.”

Vinicius Junior will lead the attack in Mbappe’s absence. Arbeloa highlighted the winger’s responsibility in the tie.

The Spanish coach, who replaced Xabi Alonso in January, admitted his first two months have been a “big learning experience” and expressed respect for Pep Guardiola’s tactics.

Guardiola, a three-time Champions League winner, urged his Manchester City players to stay true to themselves at the Bernabeu. “If we’re out, we’re out. Congratulate Madrid… sometimes the opponent is better, but at least try it,” he said.
