Speaking with journalists, the 2023 Labour Party Vice Presidential candidate, Datti Baba Ahmed, firmly dismissed reports suggesting Obi had dumped the party.

He said that, to the best of their knowledge, Obi remained a committed member and nothing had changed about his status. He added playfully that he would gladly shift his seat to the left if Obi walked into the meeting room.

Baba Ahmed said the party had weathered its internal challenges and emerged stronger.

He noted that the attendance of officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission at the NEC meeting served as a powerful validation of the gathering and a morale boost for members.

He maintained that the Labour Party had not diminished in strength but had instead grown in numbers. He added that, like every political association, the party had faced difficult moments but had now stabilised.

He said the NEC session marked a turning point that signalled better prospects for unity and discipline.
