A Ritual Murder Case shocks Nigeria as a missing FRSC officer and her daughter are found dead in a suspected herbalist’s den, prompting fresh police investigations

Authorities confirmed on Tuesday that a Ritual Murder Case has taken a grim turn after the remains of a Federal Road Safety Corps senior officer, Funmilayo Oluwamayokun Lasisi, and her teenage daughter, Sewa, were discovered at a suspected herbalist’s home in Osun State.

The forty-year-old officer and her daughter were declared missing after leaving their residence at the Obasanjo Hilltop Estate in Abeokuta on Sunday, November second.

They never returned, triggering widespread concern among relatives, colleagues and the Ogun State Police Command.

Oluwamayokun, a Superintendent Route Commander and a highly regarded fourth-level operational officer responsible for key enforcement routes, had not been reachable by phone.

Family members grew increasingly distressed as attempts to trace her movements failed.

The shocking discovery was shared by a Facebook user, Ayomideji Solanke, who said a family source disclosed that the bodies were recovered from the residence of a traditional healer in an undisclosed Osun community.

Solanke said that the wife of the herbalist had been arrested while the suspected ritualist fled the area.

Speaking to our correspondent, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, confirmed the incident and revealed that Osun State Police Command had arrested several suspects.

Ogunlowo added that exhibits believed to be body parts of the victims were found at the scene.

He explained that Osun Police Command would lead the investigation while Ogun officers provide support.

Residents across both states have reacted with shock and disbelief. The brutality of the deaths, together with the mutilated remains, has deepened public frustration over recurring cases of ritual killings.

This is not an isolated tragedy. In July last year the Ogun State Police Command investigated the killing of sixteen-year-old Lawal Wahab, whose mutilated body was discovered days after he went missing.

In another case in January twenty-twenty, Lagos police recovered the dismembered remains of businessman Ignatius Adunukwe in a bush in Ajah after he was allegedly lured by supposed buyers of his property.

As investigations continue, communities have called for stronger protections, swift prosecution and renewed efforts to curb ritual-related crimes that continue to haunt various states.
