Samir Nasri Claims Referee Favoured PSG in Arsenal Final Defeat

Samir Nasri Referee Claim Arsenal PSG Final as former midfielder says referee penalised Arsenal for time-wasting in Champions League defeat

Former Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri has claimed that the referee played a decisive role in Paris Saint-Germain’s UEFA Champions League final victory over Arsenal at the weekend, suggesting that Mikel Arteta’s side were penalised for their game management during the first half of the contest.

Samir Nasri alleges referee bias in Arsenal PSG final emerged following Arsenal’s narrow 4-3 defeat on penalties after a 1-1 draw in Budapest, where Paris Saint-Germain secured a second consecutive Champions League title.

Samir Nasri, who previously played for Arsenal, alleged that officiating decisions in the second half went against the Premier League side, linking them to what he described as earlier time-wasting tactics.

Ousmane Dembélé had cancelled out Kai Havertz’s opening goal, with the match later decided by a tense penalty shootout in which Eberechi Eze, Nuno Mendes and Gabriel Magalhães all missed their efforts.

Nasri, speaking to Canal+’s Late Football Club, suggested that the referee’s approach changed after the break.

“In the second period, the referee systematically whistled against Arsenal,” Samir Nasri said.

“He punished them for their time-wasting in the first half.”

He further argued that a potential penalty incident involving Nuno Mendes and Noni Madueke might have changed the outcome had it been awarded, although he acknowledged that the decision not to intervene was not necessarily controversial.

A secondary highlight of Nasri’s comments was his suggestion that the referee would have been reluctant to take what he described as an “uncalculated risk” in such a high-pressure final.
