Steve Clarke urges Scotland fans not to overspend or go into debt securing World Cup tickets for US group matches and Brazil clash

Scotland head coach Steve Clarke has cautioned supporters not to put themselves into financial difficulty to follow the national team at next year’s World Cup in the United States.

Clarke made the remarks as members of the Scotland supporters’ club were invited to apply for tickets for group matches against Haiti and Morocco in Boston, and the final group game against Brazil in Miami.

FIFA has faced criticism over ticket pricing, which could see fans paying thousands of pounds for a seat.

Scotland fans are expected to receive around eight per cent of available tickets for their group matches, although the Scottish Football Association hopes this allocation will increase in coming months.

Clarke acknowledged the costs, saying: “It’s going to be expensive. But it is expensive to go to America anyway. The tickets are expensive. If you can get there and you can afford to be there, then fantastic, but don’t push yourself too far into debt trying to get there.”

The coach emphasised that ticket allocations are determined by FIFA. “The Scottish FA have taken their full allocation,” he added.

For the match against Brazil in Miami on 24 June, Scotland has been allocated 3,736 tickets, priced at £198, £373, or £523.

Clarke expressed hope that loyal supporters who travel to “all the far-flung places” can secure tickets at reasonable cost, noting they “deserve to be there.”

He also commented on demand, saying: “A friend of mine has already booked his flights and he’s in to me for tickets, but he’ll need to hold fire on those ones because I don’t have any at the minute.”
