Senator Mpigi Barinada, Rivers South East lawmaker and Senate Committee on Works chairman, has died, colleagues confirm

Senator Mpigi Barinada, who represented the South East Senatorial District of Rivers State and chaired the Senate Committee on Works, has died, colleagues confirmed on Thursday.

Akin Alabi, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Works, shared the news in a tribute post on his official X account.

He wrote: “Good night my dear friend. Rest in Peace, Senator Mpigi Barinada. Sen Mpigi represented Rivers South East in the Senate.”

Barinada’s passing comes as a shock to fellow lawmakers and constituents. The circumstances surrounding his death could not be confirmed at the time of reporting.

Senator Barinada had been an influential figure in national infrastructure and legislative oversight, particularly through his role as chairman of the Senate Committee on Works.
