Seyi Makinde workers welfare drive sees new measures for LAUTECH staff, wage arrears payments, and road projects in Ogbomoso

Seyi Makinde workers welfare commitment was reinforced on Tuesday as the Oyo State governor announced sweeping measures to resolve the ongoing industrial action at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso.

Speaking during a meeting with professional bodies at the hospital, Governor Makinde assured staff that his administration would continue to serve the people and prioritise the welfare of workers across all sectors.

Nurses and midwives at the institution had embarked on an indefinite strike to push for improved conditions.

The governor outlined immediate interventions, including the constitution of a Governing Council for the hospital before the end of the week. He also approved a monthly stipend of N80,000 for 65 non-staff security personnel and integrated them into the system as ad hoc staff.

To ease operational challenges, Makinde increased the hospital’s monthly subvention by N35 million. He further approved the payment of accumulated promotion arrears totalling N219 million, to be disbursed in three instalments between October and December 2025.

In addition, the governor pledged to clear arrears of the new minimum wage covering January to August 2025 in three tranches, also payable within the same period. He noted that issues such as salary structure reviews would be handled by the incoming Governing Council.

“There are major things recurring, and one of them is the issue of the Governing Council for LAUTECH Teaching Hospital. I want to assure you that before the end of this week, you will have a Governing Council,” Makinde said.

He emphasised the need to balance welfare demands with investments in infrastructure to ensure long-term progress.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, described the intervention as proof of the governor’s commitment to quality healthcare delivery, while Acting Chief Medical Director Prof. Olawale Olakulehin hailed Makinde as a “listening leader and an embodiment of kindness.”

At the palace of the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, the governor also announced plans to commence reconstruction of inner roads in the town, with two contractors appointed for speedy delivery.

The monarch praised Makinde as a governor with “many landmarks,” citing his intervention in the LAUTECH crisis and approval of his appointment as Soun.
