Nigerian singer Skales recounts being unjustly detained and compelled to perform his hit songs in a police cell for better treatment

Popular Nigerian singer Skales has shared an unbelievable experience of being forced to perform his hit songs ‘Shake Body’ and ‘Emergency’ while detained in a police cell.

In a viral interview with Zikoko media, Skales narrated how he and his manager were unjustly locked up following a dispute between his manager and a Nigerian billionaire.

Skales explained that despite being told he could go home, he insisted on staying with his manager at the police station. It was during this detention that a fellow inmate recognized him.

To secure a better sleeping arrangement off the bare floor, Skales was compelled to perform for the other inmates, including their “boss.”

Recounting the bizarre incident, Skales stated, “He said I would perform for them for me to sleep on the mat. He said they would give me a special place when I perform because all of them sleep on the floor. I performed, sang the lyrics and everything shamelessly.”

Skales also revealed that an inmate, sympathetic to his situation, offered to help him harm the billionaire involved in his arrest, an offer Skales immediately declined.

The singer further highlighted the harsh realities of being detained in a Nigerian police cell, where inmates rely on their families to provide money for food. Upon his release, Skales showed compassion by purchasing a large quantity of food for the other inmates.
