Spain World Cup Double makes history as the nation simultaneously holds the FIFA men’s and women’s World Cup titles

Spain became the first nation in football history to simultaneously hold the FIFA Men’s World Cup and FIFA Women’s World Cup titles after defeating Argentina 1-0 in the 2026 World Cup final at New York/New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford.

The World Cup Double was confirmed by FIFA after Sunday’s victory, marking a landmark achievement for Spanish football.

The men’s triumph comes three years after Spain’s women’s national team claimed its first World Cup title with a 1-0 victory over England in the 2023 final in Sydney, sealed by Olga Carmona’s decisive goal.

Celebrating the achievement, FIFA said on its official X account: “History-makers Spain have become the first nation to hold both the @FIFAWorldCup and @FIFAWWC simultaneously!”
