Sterling Financial profit surge hits 99% in 2025, driven by improved efficiency, N90.7bn pre-tax profit, and strong revenue growth

Sterling Financial Holdings Company Plc has announced a remarkable 99 per cent increase in profit before tax for the 2025 fiscal year, rising to N90.7 billion from N45.86 billion in 2024.

The results highlight the Group’s focus on operational efficiency and strategic growth.

The company reported a reduced cost-to-income ratio of 63 per cent, down from 72 per cent in 2024, underscoring disciplined expense management.

Gross earnings surged 46 per cent to N476.5 billion, driven by growth in both interest and non-interest income.

Interest income rose 43 per cent to N369.6 billion, supported by increased loans, advances, and higher yields on investment securities.

Non-interest income climbed 57.3 per cent, boosted by trading income and fees and commissions.

Total assets expanded to N3.92 trillion, up 14 per cent from N3.54 trillion the previous year, reflecting the Group’s growing market presence.

Customer deposits also rose 18 per cent to N2.98 trillion, showcasing strengthened engagement and product adoption.

Shareholders’ funds increased 39 per cent to N424.0 billion, strengthening Sterling HoldCo’s capital base and ensuring compliance with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s recapitalisation requirements ahead of the March 2026 deadline.

Key initiatives included a public offer of over N88 billion for Sterling Bank and a prior capital injection that reinforced The Alternative Bank’s status as a national non-interest bank.

Analysts note that Sterling Financial’s diversified earnings base, focus on efficient capital deployment, and operational improvements position the Group for continued growth in Nigeria’s competitive financial services landscape.
