Super Falcons squad for the Comoros Olympic qualifier includes 28 players, with Ashleigh Plumptre returning after missing the 2026 WAFCON
Super Falcons interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen has named a 28-player squad for Nigeria’s 2028 Olympic qualifying fixtures against Comoros, with captain Rasheedat Ajibade, Asisat Oshoala and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie among the headline selections.
The Nigeria Football Federation announced the squad on Tuesday as the 10-time African champions begin their campaign for a place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The selection combines established international players with emerging talent, including Benfica forward Janet Akekoromowei, who has attracted attention following her recent performances and move to the Portuguese club.
One of the notable inclusions is Ashleigh Plumptre, who returns to the national team after missing the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations through injury.
Nnadozie, one of Nigeria’s most experienced players, leads the goalkeeping group alongside Comfort Erhabor and Christiana Uzoma.
The defensive options include Michelle Alozie, Shukurat Oladipo, Farida Abdulwahab, Glory Ogbonna, Oluwatosin Demehin, Glory Edet, Plumptre and Timininu Adeshina.
In midfield, Eguavoen has selected Christy Ucheibe, Joy Igokwe, Favour Nwocha, Fatimoh Solaty, Suliat Abideen, Toni Payne and Jennifer Echegini.
The forward line features considerable international experience, with Ajibade and Oshoala joined by Flourish Sabastine, Shakirat Moshood, Gift Monday, Joy Omewa, Blessing Nkor, Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, Akekoromowei and Uchenna Kanu.
The full squad is expected to report to AM2PM Hotel in Ijebu-Ode on Saturday, October 3, ahead of the first leg.
Nigeria will play both legs at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo because Comoros does not currently have a CAF-approved venue for international fixtures.
The first leg is scheduled for Friday, October 9, with the return match set for Tuesday, October 13.
The fixtures mark an important early step in Nigeria’s bid to return to the Olympic women’s football tournament. The Super Falcons last appeared at the Olympics at the 2008 Beijing Games and have missed the last four editions.
The return of Plumptre provides an additional defensive option for Eguavoen, while the inclusion of Akekoromowei underlines the continued transition within the squad as established players are joined by younger talents.
Nigeria’s preparation also comes after the Super Falcons’ participation at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where the team continued to build around a core featuring Ajibade, Oshoala, Nnadozie, Payne and Ucheibe.
For Eguavoen, the immediate task is to navigate the two-legged tie against Comoros and secure progression in the Olympic qualification process.
With both matches taking place in Ikenne, the Super Falcons will have familiar conditions for the two encounters, while Comoros will be looking to overcome the absence of a home venue and challenge Nigeria’s experienced squad.
The 28-player Super Falcons squad now has just over a week to assemble before the opening fixture, with the Olympic qualification campaign set to provide Eguavoen with an early test of his interim leadership.
